Mood Board
A mood board helps to find the site’s look and feel. This is done with cutouts, color samples and existing marketing material. Often, the mood board will also include values you can link to your brand or message.
The mood board is used to find a direction for the design and copy. You might think look and feel has little to do with usability. But actually, finding the correct tone will enhance your message, make a user more at ease and more able to understand what you are saying.
At best, a look and feel will connect on an emotional level between your product and your visitor. It then becomes a unique tool to get your story across and set you apart from your competitors.
When I build the mood board; I do this simultaneously with the prototypes. This gives us two ways of thinking about your web site. With the mood board and the prototypes, everything is in place to start the actual designing.
