You know all about Web Design

Sure! You know what web design is all about. Or do you really?

Find out which steps lead to a web site that works for you.

  1. Planning

    This step is really crucial. Together, we look at your site’s objectives and decide on a strategy.

    It’s also a very hands-on step. Each key page type gets a clickable prototype.

    These protoypes help to ensure everything in the site is logical.

    Simultaneously I create a moodboard. This will be the base for the site’s style.

  2. Design

    I make a design for each key page type.

    This is done in the web browser. That way, the design can be tested and fine tuned immediately.

    A test phase is added after approval. The pages are checked in different web browsers.

    This way, you can be sure your site looks good on every system.

  3. Programming

    Virtually every site these days has a Content Management System.

    This makes it easy to create, manage and edit pages.

    Most often, I use an existing system, like SilverStripe. Sometimes I have to build a custom solution.

    Other functionality that needs to be programmed includes slide shows and forms.

  4. Follow Up

    With the Content Management System ready, the client can start to add content.

    Some things about the system might not be completely clear. Or small problems may be discovered.

    By involving the client at this early stage, everything can be finalized by launch time.

    After launch, there’s a regular checkup to see if the site meets its objectives.

What to look for in a web agency?

A website is no small investment. This also means you better make sure you get something in return. More sales or more members? A better way to keep your records? An easier way to inform current customers?

Whatever your objective is, it’s important you choose a company that actively thinks about meeting them. Your best bet is a company that has a lot of web experience.

Alternatively, an agency that does web design ‘on the side’ might not be a great choice.

You might also want to be a bit wary with a company that is only interested by the latest technological hype.

Cool new features can be interesting. But only when they assist you in helping to reach your site’s goals. Don’t be be afraid to ask questions when an addition to the site is suggested.

The last, but probably most important issue is the follow up. Are there regular updates on the site’s results? What are the possibilities to intervene when your objectives aren’t met?

Think hard before committing to a web agency and don’t shy away from asking difficult questions.
